First reflection: I didn’t know what to expect transitioning to Bowdle the weekend after graduating from college. My first day felt like I was running in circles from the clinic to the hospital then down to the nursing home and having to somehow find a way back to the clinic. By the second day, I had a greater appreciation for how seamlessly patient care flowed. Final Reflection: As I think back to the last four weeks in Platte, South Dakota, there is so much that comes to mind. Week 1: The Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital it located on the western edge of Scotland, South Dakota. Attached to the hospital you will find the Scotland Medical Clinic, Scotland Pharmacy, and West Winds Apartments, an independent living community. I arrived in town on June 24th, the evening prior to the start of my REHPS experience. Week 1 I am at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital Avera in Scotland, SD. I am living in independent-living apartments connected to the hospital with my REHPS partner, Molly. On Monday, we toured the facility and met most of the hospital/clinic staff. It is interesting to see how a critical access hospital works. Sometimes they are super busy and other times they have no inpatients. The staff has to be ready for an emergency visit at any time, though. I have been in Chamberlain for about two weeks now and have had a good experience so far. The town of Chamberlain is absolutely beautiful with all the hills and the location being along the Missouri River. My first two weeks in Chamberlain have been great! On our first day, we had a good laugh when we realized that our pictures were on the napkin holders in the cafeteria. No wonder why everyone acted like they already knew us! I enjoyed talking to the hospital pharmacists about different areas of pharmacy.
